Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most common questions asked by our BUDDY community.

BUDDY is an AI-powered digital health platform that combines a mobile application and optional wearable integration to help monitor physical health, mental health, safety, medication adherence, and wellbeing for members or patients living independently. The platform provides real-time alerts, care coordination capabilities, and remote engagement tools designed to support proactive care management and improved outcomes.

BUDDY is designed for organizations that support individuals who may benefit from health monitoring and safety support, including but not limited to:

  • Health plans and insurers managing high-risk or aging populations
  • Care facilities supporting patients post-discharge
  • Employers and benefits programs supporting caregiver populations
  • Sports teams and fans working to stay active
  • Home health and long-term care providers

Participants typically use:

  • A smartphone (iOS or Android): provides reminders, notifications, and connectivity to caregivers and care teams
  • A smartwatch or wearable device (such as a Fitbit, Apple Watch, or Samsung): enables continuous monitoring and alerts

The wearable is optional, though recommended for best outcomes.

While the full platform experience is delivered through a connected smartphone and wearable device, certain features can operate with only one device depending on configuration. For example, cellular-enabled smartwatches can be deployed using carrier family or managed plans, allowing the watch to function independently in some use cases.

Alerts can be routed to any combination of approved stakeholders, including:

  • Family caregivers
  • Care managers or administrative staff
  • Clinical teams
  • Designated emergency contacts
  • Monitoring staff within provider organizations
  • Local Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Each recipient must be authorized within the platform and have a BUDDY account to receive alerts and notifications.

If a critical alert is triggered and the user does not confirm their status within a configurable response window (default is 5 minutes), alerts escalate to the local 911 department automatically.

In urgent situations such as a CODE BLUE alert, emergency services (911) can be notified immediately. This escalation model is designed to ensure rapid response while first notifying trusted contacts who may be closest to the individual.

Yes! BUDDY is designed with a “wear-and-go” experience so that the primary user interaction is simply wearing the smartwatch.

All setup and configuration tasks including medication reminders, alert routing, and care team access may be handled by caregivers, family members, or administrative staff.
